Avoid this brand at all costs!!! Out of twenty five disk only 7 burned at all and of those only 4 will actually let you retrieve the data. Other brands like verbatim DL dvds worked just fine, so it is not an issue of hardware. It is an issue of this media being cheap and suffering from any type of quality control.

Issue # 1:
233x is the READ speed, as opposed to write speeds. I contacted the manufacturer and the WRITE speed is only 16MB/sec. 133X cards have 20MB/sec speed. As you can see, this Ridata card is performing below 133X speed as write speed is concerned. See the issue 2 below.

Issue #2:
You need to send this card to the manufacturer AT YOUR OWN shipping cost to get the firmware upgraded to get the problem fixed as stated at manufacturer's website, ww w. ritekusa . co m:

I just purchased the 25-pack spindle of this disc from Amazon. I had read the negative reviews here stating numerous problems/errors with them. Since there was a rebate involved, I wanted to verify the quality of the discs before I mailed off the UPC (and thereby nullify the possibility of returning them).

Using Nero on my Benq DW1620 drive, I ran a full-disc test burn w/verify at 4X on all 25 discs. Each and every one of them verified successfully.

BTW, here are some of the specifics of the discs that I received, as reported by Nero CD Speed:Manufacturer: Ricoh
Code: RICOHJPN W11Remember that not all drives, nor all media, are created equal. They don't always work well together. CD-R/RW had this same problem earlier on, but improved over time. It just so happens that Ritek/Ridata is a recommended brand of media for my drive.

A quick web search should provide CD/DVD resources that can help pair your drive with a brand of media that has given good results. Manufacturers, too, sometimes list media that has been tested and "approved" for use with their drive(s).

I've used several spindles of these discs and for the most part they work just fine in my HP940. As far as the problems some folks have had with playback...Some burners and/or software does not work well with DVD-R DL, but work fine with DVD+R DL. That also applies to players. The DVD player that came with my computer doesn't like "DL" disks while playing the 4.7 GB disks just fine. My HP940 plays them just fine. My old DVD player in my entertainment center didn't do well with "DL" discs either, while the newer one I bought has no problem with them. Also, some brands of discs seem to work better with certain burners than with others. My advice is: If you are just starting out with burning DVD's, experiment with different brands & speeds and when you find what works with your equipment stick with it...IMHO

When I first started using these everyone asked if it was some goofy toy. It didn't take long for everyone to realize that it was a fully functional USB drive as well as a USB hub. Now when I'm using my notebook computer I can still use my USB mouse when I put the drive in.

The one thing that I think people need to realize though is that this is not a full power USB hub. I have not been able to charge my iPod Nano through the hub ports, but most other things (mice, other USB drives) seem to work just fine. It is funny to see you plug 2 other USB drives into your USB drive though.

My husband uses these DVD's to save our recordings of our daughter, and found that they are a decent, economical alternative to buying the Sony brand mini-DVD's. We have to record on the highest quality setting, and there is slight graininess compared to the Sony product, but is negligible considering the price difference. Would recommend to those looking for a good (but not perfect) quality DVD to store a high volume of recordings.

I bought these to use with my Pioneer DVR 810HR and DVR 57H recorders. I haven't had any problems with any other brands so far. These discs were repeatedly rejected by both units. I tried 5 discs, all with the same frustrating results. I'm going to send them back for a refund, but I'm out the s/h costs. If I could I'd give these 0 stars.

Most of the 8.5GB 8X double layer discs failed during burning process. I had to purchase a pack at Sams to complete the task at hand. I do not know if RIDATA/RITEK discs are compatible. Thank you for asking. This is the first product purchased at AMAZON that was unsatisfactory. After a week of extensive use on Vista, Windows 7, and Leopard.

(+) Works well out of the box.

(+) Benefits of a SSD such as no moving part, noiseless, low power consumption. Can be used as a fast external boot volume if your BIOS supports it.

(+) Build: Very nicely designed and feel solid in your hand. I also own the Kingston DataTraveler 64 GB stick. the RiDATA kicks DataTraveler's behind in terms of speed and build quality. The massive capacity is both comforting and unnerving; I would not risk losing that much of my personal data, should it get misplaced or corrupted. The Kingston's build is a little plasticky & flimsy. RiDATA has nicer form factor than the Cavalry Pelican Series but a little slower in term of theoretical transfer speed.

(+) Versatility: both USB & eSATA, which offers faster transfer speed compared to USB 2.0.

(+) Speed: Rated the fastest portable SSD stick on the market by tomsguide(dot)com in Feb 2009. SSD is faster than flash. A 700MB avi movie is transferred in 30 seconds using the USB port. I haven't tried the eSATA port yet.

(-/+) No built-in security measures (software, biometrics, etc).
(-/+) Need a special USB cable for non-powered eSATA port.
(-/+) Reliability: Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) is >250k hours, compared to > 1,000k hours for internal drives. But realistically, one probably never reach that number.

*** Wishful thinking - incorporation of bluetooth module for wireless data transfer and bluetooth computer proximity lockdown software option.

*** Note - SSD prices are a rather rapid descent, not unlike the platter hard drives of years past. So if you **need** a nice external SSD now, i would recommend this one. However, there is no true urgency to acquire one now if you can wait.

Ridata DVD+R 16x Ridata-S in 100-piece cake box

I purchased one cake box of these about three months ago and they were rated and burned at 16x. I was pleased that media with such a low price would actually make the 16x rating so I purchased two more cakes boxes of 100 each. This time both stacks are rated at 2.4x. I thought no big deal, I will simply write to the company and explain the situation and they would make right. It's been over two months since I sent them a first email and a month since I sent them a second email. Both of my emails have went unanswered so instead of wasting my time on a third email, here I am explaining to you what happened to me and advising you to spend a little more and go with a more reliable brand -- I've always had good experiences with Verbatim, my regular brand of which I have purchased somewhere around 3,000 DVDs with a total number of coasters somewhere around a dozen. I could not vouch for Verbatim's support because I have never had a need to contact them. I can mention that Verbatim rebates are some of the fastest around! Best wishes and happy burning to you!
